My market bags can be made of three different kinds of fibers.
Cotton, this is a strong, absorbent fiber. Lion brand 100% cotton has a beautiful shine and color to it. This can be great for market bags, purses and beach bags! Just wash it with your laundry then lay flat to dry!
Hemp, this is a very strong fiber. Lion brand 100% hemp comes in different colors and will become softer after each wash and as you use it. To clean, either hand wash or place in a lingerie bag with your other garments and wash in cold water then allow it to air dry.
Jute Twine, this is a strong fiber as well. This fiber doesn't do well with being wet so it is great for purses or market bags that will not get wet often. If you need to wash it, gently hand wash in cold water (it should be washed alone because it may shed fibers) and then lay flat to dry (do not wring or twist it as it can be brittle), otherwise it is best to only do spot treatment. It may change color depending on what stain removal you use, so test in an area that will not be seen if it does!
